HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE BREAST AND CERVICAL CANCER AWARENESS PROGRAMME

Highlights from the Breast and Cervical Cancer Awareness Programme organised by Sustainable Development Goals in conjunction with the Office of the First Lady, Ekiti State, Ekiti State Ministry of Health & Human Services, Ekiti Cancer Registry, EKSUTH and Ekiti State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development.
The programme, which had Ekiti State First Lady, Her Excellency, Erelu Bisi Fayemi as the special guest of honour, also featured the Chief Medical Director, Federal Teaching Hospital, Ido-Ekiti (FETHI), Prof. Adekunle Ajayi as one of the stakeholders who gave goodwill messages.
From his repository of medical and administrative knowledge, Prof. Ajayi, on behalf of Board of Management and members of staff identified with the organisers of the programme.
He recognised and thanked the First Lady for the political will she had added to the fight against cancer in Ekiti State, saying, “Not just the political will, you have personally involved in the mobilization of people to ensure that will fight the scourge of cancer in Ekiti State. This is commendable and we thank you ma.”
The CMD lauded the leadership of Ekiti Cancer Registry, Dr Abidemi Omonisi and Dr Goke Erinomo for being proactive and dogged. He maintained that their astuteness had helped the state to ensure that data for planning are put in place and that such hard work deserves recognition.
He informed the gathering that FETHI has engaged in community outreach programmes across the state and its environs from time to time to take healthcare to the people. He added that the hospital will only need to add screening for breast cancer to what is done at the community outreaches.
