FETHI TAKES HEALTH CARE AWARENESS TO OMU-IJELU EKITI

Medical Team from the Community Medicine and Pharmacy Department of Federal Teaching Hospital, Ido-Ekiti on Thursday, 27th June, 2019 visited Omu-Ijelu, Itaji in Oye Local Government area of Ekiti State to sensitize residents on the benefits attached to regular medical check-up.
Dr Abioye from the Department of Community Medicine, in his opening remarks enlightened the attendees on the need to overcome fear of financial buoyancy especially when an affordable, qualitative and quantitative medi-care delivery is being brought to their community.
In the course of the outreach, Mr Dada Olamilekan, a Community Health Officer(C.H.O) spoke on the benefits of inculcating an healthy diet plan, urging  them to consume less salt and carbohydrates and introducing more vegetables to their meals, drinking enough water and undertaking routine check-up’s even when not necessarily sick.
He also discouraged residents from keeping unhealthy habits such as smoking, alcohol intake, poor environmental hygiene, self medication, to mention but a few.
On a final note, Mr. Dada advised patients with ailments such as diabetes and hypertension not to discontinue intake of their medications without the doctor’s consent.
In attendance were 102 people while 3 were referred to FETHI for further medical investigations. A Community Health Physician Dr Abioye, 4 Community Health Officers, 3 Pharmacists, an Accountant and an Information Officer were on ground for the outreach program.
