FETHI TAKES CANCER AWARENESS CAMPAIGN TO FUOYE, EKITI STATE.

 
   

The Cancer Registry Unit under the Department of Histopatolgy, Federal Teaching Hospital Ido-Ekiti, FETHI in Collaboration with Federal University of Oye-Ekiti, Ekiti State on Wednesday, gave public lecture to students of FUOYE on the contributory factors, risk and prevention of the deadly scourge, CANCER.

Dr. O.O Erinomo, the Head of Department (HOD) Histopathology and also Director of the Cancer Registry team appreciated the Vice Chancellor and Management of FUOYE, the Dean of Student Affairs, Dr. Joshua Malomo for his efforts towards the actualization of the students awareness program. He welcomed all participants and stated that no investment as regards having a good healthy lifestyle is wasted.

He described cancer as an uncontrolled growth of abnormal cells in the body. Cancer develops when the body’s normal control mechanism stops working. Old cells do not die, they grow out of control forming new abnormal cells. These extra cells may form a mass of tissue, called a tumor.

Furthermore, It has been established that avoiding tobacco, eating healthy diet, maintaining a healthy weight and be physically active, protecting yourself from scorching sun, getting vaccinated, avoiding risky health behaviours and getting regular medical care are all important, in the prevention of cancer.

After entertaining several comments, questions and answers which were appropriately addressed by the presenter, the HOD, in his closing remarks appreciated organizers of the program as well as participants. He therefore urged students to always live a healthy lifestyle

Citing Suart Scott, “you beat cancer by how you live, why you live and in the manner in which you live”. He charged.
