The National Health Insurance Scheme established under NHIS Act (2004) by the Federal Government of Nigeria, FETHI Chapter has conducted a 2-day staff training workshop for claims officers, aimed at providing advanced health care for enrollees.
The training themed
“Claims Preparation in Health Insurance from Manual to Computer Based ” was held on Wednesday, 23rd and Thursday, 24th June, 2021 at the Histopathology Seminar Room.
Dr. Idowu Adebara, Chairman, Medical Advisory Commitee, who represented the Chief Medical Director, welcomed the participants to the training session.
He said, ‘the way of progress is what the NHIS Department has taken’.
He commended the initiative of the department and training committee for organising the workshop and urged the participants to pay rapt attention.
Director of Administration, High Chief B.O Ogunrinde, described the NHIS Department as a place where members are adequately engaged.
He acknowledged the harmonious mode of operation at play and wished the participants lasting impacts from the training.
In his remarks, Dr. Omolayo Taiwo, Head of Department, NHIS, described the training as structured and timely aimed at exposing key staff to the future of billing from manual claims process also known as (paper-work) to automated billing, coding and electronic claims preparation.
The Guest speaker, Dr. Tamunodiepiriye Ibaraboka from the United Healthcare International Limited, took the trainees in a zoom session on common medical and coding errors; claims preparation and presentation procedures; the HMO’s perspective.
Hand-on pratical session to reacquaint participants on streamlined functions of the claims officer, focus on managing better care for patients and automation of the health insurance system were discussed with participants sub- divided into groups anchored by well equipped instructors.
Mrs Afolabi Adebola, Head of Administration, NHIS Department, expressed appreciation to the Chief Medical Director and Management Team for supporting and creating an enabling atmosphere for the Department to thrive.
Mr Onile G.T, Chairman, Training Committee (NHIS), thanked the leadership of the department, the training commitee members and participants for their cooperation and expressed ethusiasm that the training will influence their performance maximally.
The grand finale activity of the 2-day training session was the presentation of certificates to participants by the CMAC.
He congratulated the participants on the attainment of another milestone in their career.
