The National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) Department of Federal Teaching Hospital (FETHI) has just concluded a 2-day intensive staff training workshop for their Encounter Officers.
The staff training/Workshop themed, “Standard Patient Encounter: A Requisite for Good Claims Preparation ” was held on Wednesday, 3rd and Thursday, 4th November, 2021 at the Histopathology Seminar Room.
The Chief Medical Director, Prof. Adekunle Ajayi, ably represented by Dr. Erinomo, in his opening address, welcomed the participants to the training session.
He refered to the Head of Department and Members of the NHIS Department as “the future of medicine, while the Doctors and other professionals in the medical field are the practitioners”.
In his words, “It is inherent that we train and retrain as individuals and an organization to empower ourselves in the build-up of the health system geared towards quality health services”.
He implored all present, to see the training as an opportunity to benefit, making the best of what we have as an institution.
Dr. Omolayo Taiwo, Head of Department, NHIS, in his opening remarks, described the training as a platform organised by the department with focus, in contributing their quota professionally in a multi-disciplinary system as FETHI, in the delivery of quality health care services to her enrollees going forward.
On that note, he welcomed the participants, as he enjoined them to take the training with utmost determination to ensuring that service delivery is improved.
The Guest Lecturer, Mr. Yomi Joshua, a Sales and Brand Consultant, MTN Nigeria, took the trainees through Best Practices in Customer Care : A Focus on Healthcare Services; Upholding ethical standards and dynamics for efficient and patient oriented communication in a clinical system .
Further-on , interactive technical sessions on; The Appropriate Use of Health Insurance Documents by Mr S.O Abolarin(NHIS Claims and Billings Unit); Interpretation of Clinical Documents: For Claims Preparation with focus on:
-Accident & Emergency & Physiotheraphy by Mr.Ibiloye Segun
- Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Internal Medicicine and Paediatrics by Mrs. Agboola Kehinde
- Eye, ENT and Dental by Mrs Oke-Salako A.
were delivered through insightful power-point presentations.
Mrs Afolabi Adebola, Head of Administration, NHIS Department, in her vote of thanks on behalf of the NHIS Department, expressed appreciation to the Chief Medical Director, the Chaiman, Medical Advisory Committee, Dr. Idowu Adebara and entire Management Team for their continued level of support to the Department.
The Head of Department, Dr. Omolayo T., was not left out, as she commended him for his great style of leadership, as well as the NHIS Training Committee for their show of commitment in organising an all-comprising training .
She encouraged the trainees to share all they have gained from the training sessions with their colleagues in the Department urging them to be up and doing in the discharge of their services.
NHIS Training Commitee Chairman, Mr. G.T Onile, on behalf of his team, lauded the unalloyed cooperation of the Head of Department/Training Commitee as and prayed that the participants will exhibit all they had learnt.
Dr. Idowu Adebara, (Chairman, Medical Advisory Commitee) also representing the Chief Medical Director, in his closing remarks, congratulated the trainees while he described the NHIS as a Department seated firmly in the place of excellence.
He expressed hope for more profitable outcomes and encounters by patients in their call for quality healthcare services.
Also present to give their goodwill were; Director of Administration, High Chief B.O Ogunrinde, ably represented by Mr. Adeakin (Assistant Director, General Administration); Dr. Jimoh Kayode (SERVICOM Nodal Officer), Dr. Raji and Dr.Ariyibi, (Physician-in-Charge, Igogo Annex (FETHI).
Certificate of Training were issued to participants, to mark the completion of the last training quarter for the year 2021.
