Federal Teaching Hospital, Ido-Ekiti (FETHI), joined the rest of the world to commemorate the 2022 edition of World Blood Donor Day (WBBD), designed by the World Health Organization (WHO), to recognize the importance of blood, and blood donation for the enhancement of effective health care system.

The 2022 global theme, ” Donating Blood is an Act of Solidarity. Join the Effort and Save Lives “, is geared towards the
creation of global sensitization and highlighting the critical contributions made by voluntary blood donors in securing the future of national blood services and patient’s access to safe blood.

The Head of Hematology Department, Dr.Ibijola, while giving his remarks, recounted the sidelines of blood donation sensitization, organised by the Department in collaboration with FETHI, launched as an effective platform to connect those in need of blood with voluntary unpaid donors at no cost with ease, adding that it was an act of service to humanity.

Dr. Ibijola, however implored the Hospital Community and well meaning individuals, to embrace voluntary blood donation as an act of solidarity by joining the effort to save lives.

Dr. Erinomo Olagoke., (Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee, also representing the Chief Medical Director, Prof. Adekunle Ajayi, was present to grace the event and give his goodwill message at the event.

Other activities carried out to promote this year’s WBBD celebration included; social networking campaigns, musical events to light up the occasion and celebration of solidarity in the great act of humanity by the donors.
