FETHI TAKES TUBERCULOSIS AWARENESS TO IRE-EKITI

Residents of Ire-Ekiti in Oye Local Government Area of Ekiti State, on Monday,15th July, 2019 received quality health care services delivery during an outreach organised by the medical team from Community Health and Pharmacy Departments of Federal Teaching Hospital, Ido-Ekiti (FETHI).
Mr O. Bayo, a Cancer  Registrar after his welcome address, gave a talk on measures individuals can imbibe in the fight against the dreaded disease called ‘CANCER’.
He stated that the awareness was the major solution as well as inculcating the habit of healthy eating (fresh food and less junk), examination of the body for lumps/growths, doing away with sedentary lifestyles such as alcoholism and smoking, limiting sugar intake, doing away with intoxicants such as ‘agira’ and ‘tamba’ in fighting the disease.
He concluded by advising  the people on abstinence from self health practices such as going to traditionalists or herbalists for health related matters but rather visit a trained doctor whenever there’s need.
Mrs Adeniyi, a public health nurse from the department of Community Medicine, enlightened the people on the health conditions and prevention of ‘Tuberculosis’ popularly known as TB. She listed persistent coughing for two weeks or longer, pain on the chest, coughing up blood or sputum, weight loss as   symptoms of the disease when contacted.
She added that treatment for the Tuberculosis infection has been made free, noting that one can become tuberculosis free  by taking medications as prescribed.
In attendance were 69 people while 2 were referred to FETHI for further medical investigations. Two Community Health Physicians, Dr David Ekpu and Dr Samuel Adewoye and other medical team were on ground for the outreach exercise.
