The South West Zonal Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practice Commission (ICPC), Honourable Prof. Bolaji Owasanoye ably represented by Baba Alaro Shuaibu, on Thursday, 10th of September 2020, made a courtesy visit to the CMD, FETHI with the aim of inaugurating Anti-Corruption and Transparency unit in the hospital and further promoting and entrenching the anti-corruption crusade in government establishments and strengthening the existing relationship between the commission and this hospital.
Baba Alaro and his team which include Mr. A.O Lawal, were welcomed by the Chief Medical Director, Prof. Adekunle Ajayi who gave a brief summary of the hospital as he pointed out the laudable achievements of the hospital since its inception.
Prof. Ajayi, in his remarks mentioned that FETHI’s mandate is to foster comprehensive and affordable health care services to the people of Ekiti State and its environs.
Elaborating the essence of the visit, the chairman immensely thanked the hospital management for receiving him and the team in a warmth and dignified manner. Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU) has been put in place by the Government as a result of the need to help in fighting corruption and eliminating corrupt practices in the workplace.
Similarly, he warned that those who are stepping into this onerous assignment should not use their office as tool to witch hunt or victimise other staff, rather should all work hard to gain the support of both the staff of this Agency in order to achieve positive results and to justify the trust bestowed on them.
In the course of the program, Mr. Lawal explained that corruption is caused by several factors including tax operational systems, extreme greed and materialism, lack of supervision of those in authority, secrecy of transactions, erosion of moral values and societal tolerance e.t.c.
Rounding up the program, Baba Alaro solicited for the full support of all staff and backing of the management to enable the unit to contribute their quota towards the enthronement of transparency, accountability and sound moral values in this institution, Ekiti State and in Nigeria at large.
While giving the vote of thanks, the Head of Compliance Unit in the hospital, Mr. Alake appreciated the team for coming and wished the ICPC team journey mercies back to their destination.
The visit had in attendance some members of the hospital’s management team which includes: the CMAC, Dr. Idowu Adebara, Director of Administration, Chief B.O Ogurinde, Head of Accounts and Finance Department, Mrs. Olayisade Oluyemi Assistant Director of Administration(Human Resources),Mrs. Folusho Adelegan, and other Heads of Department from various departments.
