INTRODUCTION
(i) DEPARTMENTAL ORGANOGRAM
The department is currently headed by a consultant Haematologist, Dr. A. A. Ibijola while Mrs Y. Ogundare Deputy Director of MLS oversees the activities in the Laboratories as directed by the Head of the department.

ACTIVITIES
The activities in the department is basically divided into two:
1) Clinical activities
2) Laboratory activities
The Clinical Activities involve:
(a) Routine Haematology clinic on Wednesday from 1pm. This clinic is basically for Haemoglobinopathy, Anemia, Haematological malignancies/Leukaemia and all other Haematological disorders
(b) HIV clinic on Thursdays from 10:00am
(c) Haematology day care unit where patient receive their chemotherapy as at when due and few emergency cases are also attended to from Monday to Friday, 8:00am to 6:00pm. Bone marrow aspiration and Biopsy are also perform in this clinic for out-patients
(d) Management of patients on out- patient basis
(e) Admission of patients and management on the wards.
f) TRAINING
i) Students on industrial training attachment from various health institutions
ii) Training of Medical Laboratory Scientists (Interns)
iii) In house training of scientists and doctors
iv) Training of resident doctors rotating from various departments.
LABORATORY SERVICES
- GENERAL HAEMATOLOGY
i) Full Blood Count: PCV, MCV, MCH, MCHC RDW, WBC & DIFFERENTIALS, PLATELET COUNTS, FBC.
ii) Hb Electrophoresis (SC, AA, AS, AC etc)
iii) Clotting profile (PT, PTTK, bleeding time etc) - BLOOD TRANSFUSION SERVICES INVOLVES
i Blood Groups
ii Investigation & Management of Blood transfusion reaction
iii Cross-matching of blood prior to transfusion
iv Donor drive for recruitment of voluntary donors
v Production of blood components - OTHER TESTS:
i HIV screening
ii Hepatitis B surface Antigen
iii Hepatitis C virus antibody
iv Microfilaria & VDRL ( for blood donors)
iv CD4 count for HIV management
v Bone marrow aspiration and cytology
