The Pharmacy Department of Federal Teaching Hospital, Ido-Ekiti (FETHI), had joined counterparts across the globe to celebrate the year 2022 World Pharmacists Day on 25th September with an educative seminar on 26th September where members of staff, invited participants and public were acquainted with the theme of this year’s celebration, “Pharmacy United in Action for Healthier World”.
The Chairman Medical Advisory Committee, Dr Olagoke Erinomo, who represented the Chief Medical Director, Prof Adekunle Ajayi, congratulated the professionals and urged them to always work hand in glove with other health professionals in the system.
Chairman, Association of Hospital and Administrative Pharmacists of Nigeria (AHAPN), FETHI, Pharm Akinola Akinwale thanked the management of the hospital for honouring their invitation and welcomed participants to the seminar which had several engagingly interesting sessions.
Pharm Shalom Adeyemi, an Intern, in her presentation, introduced a clinical pharmacists as professionals who are increasingly working as part of the general practice team and experts of medicine carrying out structured medication reviews and improving patient safety through a person-centered approach.
The Head of Department of National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), Dr Omolayo, felicitated with the department and appreciated her cooperation in sustaining the NHIS, adding that, “NHIS businesses, none was run without the pharmacists.”
He discussed the various NHIS businesses, guidelines, coverages, medication management models, FETHI model and the NHIA implications.
Pharm Chinedu also made a company presentation on prevention and management of dyslipidaemia in cardiovascular disease and the risk factors for cardiovascular disease.
The seminar also had Pharm. Oyelami, Pharm. Adama Joy and Pharm. Michael Malomo on the panelists session where the trio successively discussed role of hospital, academic and drug information pharmacists in promoting a healthier world, role of industrial and community pharmacists in engendering healthier world and role of pharmacy policy, politics and governance in creating a healthier world.
An interschool debate was another session of the seminar where students from FETHI Staff Secondary School and Federal Science and Technical College, Usi-Ekiti engaged themselves on the topic “All drugs should be prescribed drugs”.
It was an educative session as both supporters and opposers marshaled their points to convincing conclusions with no winner or loser, as both schools scored same marks at the end of the debate.
A Deputy Director of Pharmacy, Pharm Otegbola, who presented the schools and their representatives with certificates of participation, lauded their performances, as gift items were also given to the schools.
Head of Pharmacy Department, Pharm Olotu Peter, PSN Chairman, Ekiti State Chapter, Pharm Bolanle Oreyemi-Oshoba and AHAPN, Ekiti State Chairman, Pharm Solomon Age also joined the celebration.
Other senior professional invitees included, Fmr Director, Pharmaceutical Services, Ekiti State Ministry of Health, Pharm. Olatunji Akinwale, Fmr MD, Central Medical Stores, Ekiti State, Pharm. Israel Bamisaye, Rtd PS, Ekiti State Ministry of Health, Pharm. Oluwasanmi Ajoke and HOD Pharmacy Department, EKSUTH, Pharm. Olusola Ojo.
Also graced the celebration were some Senior Management Committee members, Head of Nursing Services, Mrs Olajide Grace and Head of Information and Corporate Affairs Department, Mr Bank-Akinnuoye. FETHI NUAHP Chairman, PT Ogunrinu Ayodeji was also at the programme.
