FETHI TAKES FREE CANCER AWARENESS AND SCREENING PROGRAM TO IFAKI EKITI.

The medical team from the Morbid Anatomy Department and Cancer Registry Unit at Federal Teaching Hospital, Ido Ekiti, organized an outreach for the residents of Ifaki Ekiti to commemorate World Cancer Day 2024 on Tuesday, March 7th, 2024, at the palace of the Olufaki of Ifaki Ekiti, Oba John Adegbenro Falore.

Prior to this, the team paid a courtesy visit to the palace on Monday, March 6th, 2024, and conducted a Cancer Campaign/Awareness Launch in the town to invite all to partake in the community-based educational program focused on increasing knowledge of Cervical Cancer (CC), Breast Cancer, and Prostate Cancer (PC).

Declaring the program open, the hospital’s Cancer Registrar, Mr. Ojo Bayo, appreciated members of the host community and expressed gratitude to the government and hospital management for ensuring the program’s success. Two playlets on cancer awareness were then performed by members of the team.

Representing the absent King, High Chief Emmanuel Babatunji Olaiya, the Olokun of Ifaki Ekiti, welcomed both the FETHI team and members of the community, expressing gratitude to the hospital for extending free health services to the people.

After conveying the Chief Medical Director’s message to the participants, Dr. Omoseebi, the Head of the Cancer Awareness Centre, delivered a lecture on the prevalence, risk factors and symptoms of the aforementioned types of cancer, stressing the importance of early detection through routine screening.

He urged attendees to consult trained medical doctors for proper diagnosis and treatment, emphasizing that proper diagnosis and treatment are essential in managing the life-threatening disease.

Following the lecture was a question and answer session where community members asked various questions concerning their health and general well-being, promptly answered by Dr. Omoseebi.

Over 100 people attended, including community chiefs, while blood samples were taken from over 40 males for Prostate Cancer Screening.
