FETHI’s First Quarter Grand Round: Enhancing Pediatric Analgesia.

The Hospital Grand Round Committee of the Federal Teaching Hospital, Ido Ekiti (FETHI), convened a training session on “Analgesia in Pediatric Trauma: Turning Shrill to Thrill” on Thursday, February 29, 2024. This collaborative effort between the Pediatrics and Pharmacology departments aimed to elevate the standard of care for pediatric patients requiring analgesia.

The presenters underscored the importance of effective pain management in pediatric patients, alongside the necessity of precise pain assessment to determine suitable analgesic interventions.

The presentation illuminated the significance of tailoring pain management strategies to suit children of diverse ages and developmental stages, emphasizing a holistic approach to pain relief. Techniques such as distraction, relaxation and physical therapy were highlighted as integral components to enhance the overall well-being of pediatric patients.

Furthermore, the presentation underscored the criticality of proper medication administration and vigilant monitoring to ensure optimal pain relief while mitigating potential side effects. Anticipated local challenges were addressed, with practical solutions proposed to surmount them.

In his concluding remarks, Prof. Adekunle Ajayi, the Chief Medical Director, commended the participants and presenters. He urged all attendees to apply the knowledge gained from the session in their daily practice, stressing the importance of continuous learning and enhancement in delivering quality care to pediatric patients.

Also in attendance were Dr. Olagoke Erinomo, Chairman of the Medical Advisory Committee, and staff from various clinical departments.
