Celebrating our heroes; FETHI Health Information Management Department Celebrates HIM Professionals Week

he Health Information Management (HIM) Department at the Federal Teaching Hospital Ido-Ekiti (FETHI) marked the global HIM Professionals Week with a series of events to highlight the vital role of health information professionals in delivering quality healthcare. These professionals ensure patient data is accurate, accessible and secure, forming the backbone of efficient healthcare services.

Dr. Adaje Adeline, Head of the Paediatrics Department, speaking on behalf of FETHI’s management, commended the HIM team for their dedication and precision in maintaining timely and accurate patient records. “Their work is critical to the hospital’s mission of providing excellent care,” she said.

In her opening remarks, Mrs. Afolabi Abimbola, Head of the HIM Department, emphasized the importance of discretion in handling sensitive patient information to uphold privacy and confidentiality. She also reflected on the profession’s evolution, particularly the adoption of Electronic Health Records (EHR), which has transformed data management by enhancing accuracy and accessibility.

A key highlight of the week was the department’s first quarterly staff training, featuring a guest lecture by Mr. Muhammed Salihu, Deputy Director at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB). His presentation, titled “Enhancing Electronic Health Records System Utilization: Strategies for Improved Healthcare Outcomes,” explored ways HIM professionals can leverage EHR to boost healthcare delivery. The session included contributions from various departments, fostering discussions on overcoming EHR implementation challenges.

The celebrations concluded with an award ceremony, where Mrs. Afolabi Abimbola received an Award of Recognition for her outstanding leadership of the HIM Department.
