The Department of Medicine is one of the most important and crucial arm of clinical services. The Department offers medical (non-surgical) services to adults. In the history of this hospital, the Department of Medicine started in the year 2002 but at a rudimentary level and devoid of any standard infrastructural facility and very few personnel. The Department has transformed progressively to the present stage of a high ranking tertiary teaching hospital with structures, facilities, services and personnel at a world class level. The Department now serves as a centre that receives referrals far and wide as against what it used to be in the past.

Residency training started in the Department in the year 2008. The Department of Medicine is accredited by The West African College of Physicians and The National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria for the training of Residents. The Department has produced Senior Residents and Consultants in different specialties. The Department is also involved in the training of House Officers and the Medical Students and Nursing Students of Afe Babalola University, Ado Ekiti.
