The Department of Paediatrics at the Federal Teaching Hospital is a leading centre for comprehensive child healthcare and specialist training. We are committed to delivering high-quality, evidence-based care to neonates, infants, children, and adolescents.
Our department plays a key role in medical education, providing structured training for house officers and resident doctors. We are fully accredited by both the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria and the West African College of Physicians, reflecting our commitment to excellence in postgraduate medical training.
In addition, we offer subspecialty training in Neonatology, equipping our residents with advanced skills to manage complex neonatal conditions.
With a dedicated team of experienced consultants, resident doctors, and allied healthcare professionals, we continue to uphold the highest standards in patient care, research, and medical education.

Dr. Wasiu Adegbenga Ajetunmobi

Professional Bio: Dr. WA Ajetunmobi is a Consultant Paediatrician and Physician-in-Charge of the Paediatrics Infectious Disease and Respiratory units at Federal Teaching Hospital, Ido-Ekiti. Also, the Paediatrics ART focal person in the facility. Currently, he is a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Paediatrics, Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti. He specializes in the management of Paediatrics Infectious diseases, respiratory diseases, and HIV care, especially among Adolescents and young adults.
Key Services: We provide comprehensive care for acute and chronic respiratory/infectious conditions, e.g., HIV, non-communicable conditions, e.g., Bronchial Asthma. Our team provides detailed clinical evaluation, counseling sessions for clients, a support group for Adolescents and young adults living with HIV, long-term follow-up, and social welfare services. Clients with respiratory conditions can undergo spirometry, lung USS, and other imaging investigations. Dr. Ajetunmobi has been involved in the development of HIV guidelines and the training of different cadres of health personnel.

Dr. Olubunmi Adeola Lawal

Short Bio: I graduated with MBChB in 2001 from the College of Health Sciences, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife. I had postgraduate professional training at the Department of Paediatrics and Child Health, Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospitals Complex, Ile-Ife and obtained the Fellowship of the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria, Faculty of Paediatrics in 2011. I have extensive exposures in the management of children and their diseases. I developed a special interest in Paediatric Oncology and Haematology and have been at it for over a decade while updating myself on current management protocols and care available.
I have been involved in the training of medical students, house officers, and resident doctors.
My research interests include the clinical evolution of sickle cell disease as well as improving outcome in paediatric oncology and some aspects of Social Paediatrics and Child Health.
I was the Head, Department of Paediatrics from April 2018 to March 2022.

Dr. Olufunke Bolaji

Dr Olufunke Bolaji is a Nigerian Consultant Paediatrician & Neonatologist with over 20 years of clinical experience. She is the current HOD of Paediatrics and the neonatal unit at the Federal Teaching Hospital, Ido-Ekiti.
She is an Associate Professor at the College of Medicine, Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti, Nigeria, and is the Secretary General of the African Neonatal Association. Dr Bolaji is a passionate advocate for improving the health of newborns in low-resource settings.
She has certifications in Paediatric Nutrition from the Nestle Nutrition Institute/Boston University of Medicine and in Policy Development and Advocacy for Global Health from the University of Washington. She has several publications in local and international peer-reviewed journals and is a reviewer for widely recognized journals.
Research Interests: Interventions for Respiratory Distress Syndrome, Perinatal asphyxia, Neonatal Nutrition, Newborn bundles to reduce Neonatal mortality, Global, regional, and national Newborn data.

Brief Professional Bio: Dr. Julia Okolugbo is a paediatric cardiologist committed to caring for children with heart diseases. Her interests include management of congenital and acquired heart diseases, research in paediatric electrocardiography/echocardiography, and medical training.
