It is my pleasure to welcome you to one of the leading physiotherapy departments in Nigeria, dedicated to delivering high-quality, evidence-based, patient-centered rehabilitation services. The department has been in existence for 25 years and is committed to restoring movement, reducing pain, improving function, preventing disability, and enhancing the quality of life of every individual entrusted to our care. It is presently the best physical treatment provider in the whole of Ekiti State and competes very well with other tertiary hospitals noted for high-quality care services in the country today.

As a key component of the multidisciplinary healthcare team, we provide comprehensive physiotherapeutic services across a wide range of clinical specialties, including musculoskeletal, neurological, paediatric, cardiopulmonary, women's health, geriatric, and community-based rehabilitation. Our team of highly skilled and licensed physiotherapists combines clinical expertise with compassion, innovation, and the latest scientific evidence to achieve the best possible outcomes for our patients.

Clinic Days

In-patients (patients on admission) are seen daily, and when necessary, twice a day.

For out-patients, an appointment is given after the initial assessment and evaluation based on the condition and treatment goals.

Services Rendered (Clinical) in the Department

Our services include:

• Restoration of function through physical treatment for persons with functional disabilities resulting from pain (acute and chronic)
• Rehabilitation of patients with muscle weakness or paralysis
• Assessing patients with difficulty breathing and facilitating proper breathing mechanisms
• Promoting mobilization of stiffened joints and preventing joint deformities
• Enabling practices for the prevention of further complications and joint deformities

Apart from patients referred from other teams within the hospital — which accounts for about 60% of the workload — patients are also referred to the department from major hospitals within the south-western part of the country by consultants mainly in the fields of orthopaedics, medicine, neurology, paediatrics, and obstetrics & gynaecology.

Research work is another area the department is currently focusing on, using the opportunity of the available facilities.

Community Outreach and Health Promotion

The department participates in community-based rehabilitation and health promotion programmes, providing screening, education, exercise advice, and appropriate referral for further medical assessment.

The Department of Physiotherapy, in collaboration with the NSP Ido-Ekiti Chapter, commemorated World Physiotherapy Day with activities centred on osteoarthritis and rheumatology.

The programme, an annual event, featured medical outreach and health education activities aimed at promoting joint health, physical activity, and the role of physiotherapy in the prevention and management of musculoskeletal conditions.
