The Chief Medical Director, Federal Teaching Hospital, Ido-Ekiti (FETHI), Prof. Kolawole Ogundipe, has expressed confidence that the strategic partnership between the hospital and the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) will evolve into a model of excellence in medical education, research and healthcare delivery. Prof. Ogundipe gave the assurance on Monday during a courtesy and working visit to the Vice-Chancellor of FUOYE, Prof. Olalekan Ogunwole, at the university's main campus. The visit also afforded the FETHI management team the opportunity to formally congratulate Prof. Ogunwole on his appointment as the fifth substantive Vice-Chancellor of the institution. The CMD described the Vice-Chancellor as an accomplished academic and administrator whose wealth of experience, particularly from his tenure as Vice-Chancellor of Bowen University, Iwo, Osun State, would further reposition FUOYE for greater achievements. According to Prof. Ogundipe, the visit marked the beginning of a renewed commitment to strengthening collaboration between both institutions in the areas of medical education, clinical training, research, innovation and institutional development. As part of the engagement, the CMD presented a comprehensive master plan and development proposal for the permanent site of the Federal Teaching Hospital located along Orin Road, Ido-Ekiti. He explained that the proposed facility was conceived to provide a conducive environment for medical education, clinical training, research and future expansion in line with global best practices. He noted that strategic planning remains indispensable to sustaining high academic and administrative standards, stressing that both institutions possess the human capacity and shared vision required to build a mutually beneficial partnership. Prof. Ogundipe further observed that their combined experiences across private and federal institutions would provide a solid foundation for seamless collaboration capable of advancing healthcare delivery and medical education in Ekiti State and Nigeria at large. Responding, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ogunwole, appreciated the FETHI management team for the visit and commended the CMD for his visionary leadership and strategic presentation. He described the hospital's master plan as a reflection of diligence, foresight and rich administrative experience, noting that Prof. Ogundipe's leadership trajectory through state, private and now federal healthcare institutions uniquely positions him to transform the teaching hospital. The Vice-Chancellor expressed confidence in the CMD's capacity to deliver on his vision for the hospital and urged members of the management team and the entire workforce to give him their unwavering support, emphasizing that institutional transformation can only be achieved through collective commitment. He also encouraged FETHI staff to continually demonstrate exemplary character worthy of emulation by FUOYE medical students, stressing that academic excellence should go pari passu with the cultivation of sound moral and cultural values. Prof. Ogunwole assured the hospital management that the university would carefully study the development proposal and communicate its observations and recommendations in due course. He disclosed that FUOYE has intensified the deployment of technology to enhance teaching and learning and revealed plans to extend the university's internet infrastructure beyond the classrooms within FETHI to other parts of the hospital. The Vice-Chancellor further announced that the university plans to commence a community outreach programme next year through mobile medical clinics that will provide free healthcare services to citizens aged 70 years and above. Highlighting the importance of sustained collaboration, he advocated regular consultative meetings between both institutions at least twice annually to review progress and identify new opportunities for partnership. According to him, while the university would continue to recommend facilities and innovations capable of enhancing students' clinical training, approved projects would be funded by the university, with maintenance responsibilities residing with the hospital. Prof. Ogunwole reaffirmed FUOYE's commitment to deepening its collaboration with FETHI and pledged the university's continued support towards creating a more conducive academic and clinical learning environment for students and staff. In his vote of thanks, the Secretary to the University's College of Medicine, Mr O. O. Taiwo, appreciated the Chief Medical Director and his delegation for the visit, describing it as another milestone in the cordial relationship between both institutions. He expressed confidence that the commitments made during the meeting would be faithfully implemented under the leadership of the Vice-Chancellor.
