EKITI NYSC DELEGATION VISITS FETHI, SEEKS ENHANCED COLLABORATION

A delegation of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Ekiti State, led by the State Coordinator, Mr Ige Adeola Abiodun, on Tuesday, 22nd September, 2026, paid a courtesy visit to the Chief Medical Director of the Federal Teaching Hospital, Ido-Ekiti (FETHI), Prof. Kolawole Ogundipe, to explore opportunities for stronger collaboration between both institutions. The visit was aimed at strengthening the existing relationship between FETHI and the NYSC Scheme in Ekiti State, particularly in the areas of healthcare delivery for Corps Members, both within and outside the orientation camp, as well as the deployment of more medical Corps Members to the Hospital to complement its workforce. Speaking during the visit, the NYSC State Coordinator appreciated the Management of FETHI for its continued support for the Scheme and its positive impact on the welfare of Corps Members in the state. Mr Abiodun specifically commended Prof. Ogundipe for paying the Ise Ekiti Camp a visit in his first month of assuming duty as FETHI CMD. He highlighted the significant role the Hospital plays in ensuring the smooth operation of the NYSC orientation camp through the provision of well-trained medical personnel and a permanently stationed ambulance to respond promptly to medical emergencies throughout the duration of the orientation exercise.

He also acknowledged the supportive and fatherly role played by the CMD in promoting the welfare of Corps Members deployed to the Hospital. He expressed particular appreciation for the recognition and recommendation given to one of the Corps Members serving at the Hospital for his exceptional attitude to work. While noting the cordial relationship between both institutions, the State Coordinator called for increased collaboration and support from the Hospital Management, particularly in areas that would further improve the experience and wellbeing of Corps Members serving in Ekiti State.

In his remarks, the Head of the National Health Insurance Department, FETHI, Dr Taiwo Omolayo, expressed delight at the positive impact of the State Coordinator within his relatively short period in office.

He noted that the Ise-Ekiti NYSC Orientation Camp was currently undergoing a long-awaited renovation, describing the development as a significant step towards improving the facilities and overall experience of Corps Members posted to the state.

Dr Omolayo also appreciated the NYSC management for the deployment of medical Corps Members to FETHI, noting that their contributions had been valuable to the Hospital. However, he expressed concern over the relatively low number of medical Corps Members currently deployed to the Hospital and pleaded that the number be significantly increased. Responding, Mr Abiodun explained that the relatively low number of medical Corps Members deployed to Ekiti State was partly connected to the condition of the orientation camp. According to him, many prospective Corps Members tend to prefer states with better camp facilities, while some of those eventually posted to Ekiti State often seek redeployment.

He, however, expressed optimism that the ongoing high-impact renovation and improvement works at the Ise-Ekiti camp would change the situation significantly by making the state more attractive to prospective Corps Members. He noted that an improved camp experience would likely translate to increased acceptance of Ekiti State postings and, consequently, a higher number of medical Corps Members available for deployment to institutions such as FETHI.

The CMD congratulated the State Coordinator on the comprehensive renovation and upgrade of the NYSC Orientation Camp. He commended his commitment to improving the welfare and experience of Corps Members and encouraged him to sustain the momentum.

He further highlighted the importance of the NYSC Scheme in providing young Nigerians with opportunities for national service, exposure and meaningful contributions outside their immediate environments. He noted that the Scheme remains an important platform for developing the capacity, sense of responsibility and national consciousness of young graduates.

He assured the State Coordinator of the Hospital's continued support and willingness to collaborate with the NYSC whenever necessary, particularly in areas that would promote the health and welfare of Corps Members serving in the state.

Prof. Ogundipe also drew attention to the strategic spread of FETHI's services across Ekiti State, noting that the Hospital operates from five locations across the three senatorial districts of the state. He explained that this provides Corps Members with access to quality healthcare services in different parts of the state, regardless of their places of primary assignment.

He further disclosed his intention to visit the NYSC orientation camp upon completion of the ongoing renovation.

The Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee (CMAC), Dr Olabisi Adeyemo, in his vote of thanks, appreciated the NYSC delegation for the visit and for demonstrating continued solidarity and commitment to strengthening the relationship with FETHI.

Dr Adeyemo prayed for greater success and growth for the NYSC Scheme in Ekiti State under the leadership of Mr Ige and expressed confidence that the existing partnership between the Scheme and the Hospital would continue to yield positive outcomes for Corps Members and the wider community.
