FETHI CMD Assures NMA of Management's Commitment to Staff Welfare, Security
The Chief Medical Director, Federal Teaching Hospital, Ido-Ekiti (FETHI), Prof. Kolawole Ogundipe, has assured the leadership of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Ekiti State Branch, of the hospital management's commitment to addressing issues affecting medical practitioners and other healthcare workers.
Prof. Ogundipe gave the assurance on Monday, 14th September 2026, when the NMA Ekiti State leadership, led by its Chairman, Dr. Raji Mustapha, paid a courtesy visit to the hospital.
Congratulating the new NMA leadership, the CMD expressed management's readiness to maintain a strong and constructive relationship with the Association, noting that sustained engagement would provide a platform for addressing issues of mutual concern and advancing the shared objectives of both parties.
On security, Prof. Ogundipe said the safety of healthcare workers and patients remained a priority for management. He disclosed that steps were already being taken to strengthen security arrangements within the hospital, including identifying sensitive areas and improving security presence and response.
The CMD also acknowledged the challenge of manpower shortages and its impact on available personnel, noting that the ability to attract and retain staff is influenced by factors beyond the hospital. He, however, assured that management would continue to explore practical measures within existing policies and available resources to improve staff attraction and retention, while addressing workload implications and considering appropriate measures to recognise additional work undertaken by available personnel.
Earlier, the NMA delegation appreciated the CMD for granting them an audience and commended the hospital management for its efforts towards improving the working environment.
The delegation highlighted security as one of its major concerns, calling for a more robust and holistic approach to security within the hospital, particularly for doctors and other healthcare workers on duty. It also called for improved surveillance, attention to sensitive areas and effective coordination with relevant security agencies.
The NMA further raised concerns about manpower shortages and the resulting workload on available personnel, noting that the situation could contribute to burnout and other challenges among healthcare workers. The Association urged management to explore practical measures, including incentives that could help attract and retain personnel.
Delivering the vote of thanks, the Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee, Dr. Olabisi Adeyemo, appreciated the NMA delegation for the visit and assured that the concerns raised would receive due attention from the appropriate quarters.
Also present were the Head of Finance and Accounts, Mrs. Yinka Adewara; Head of Internal Audit, Mrs. Feyisayo Aladetuyi; Chief of Staff to the CMD, Dr. Kamal Alabi; and Deputy Director of Protocol and Head Information & Corporate Affairs Department, Mr. Isaac Anifowose.
The visit featured the signing of the visitors' register and a group photograph to mark the occasion.
