The Federal Teaching Hospital, Ido-Ekiti (FETHI), has hosted a delegation from Ekiti State University (EKSU), Ado-Ekiti, for an interactive session aimed at formalising discussions on a proposed collaboration between the two institutions.

The visit focused on exploring opportunities for EKSU students in Basic Medical Sciences to undertake clinical postings at FETHI, while further strengthening academic and professional collaboration between the two institutions. He expressed confidence that the partnership would be fruitful and mutually beneficial to both institutions.

The Deputy Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee (DCMAC), Training, Dr. Tolutope Kolawole, said the meeting centred primarily on the proposed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between FETHI and EKSU. He noted that the Chief Medical Director, Prof. Ogundipe, places great emphasis on training and capacity development, adding that this would be a key consideration in the approval and implementation of the proposed MOU. He emphasised that such partnerships could contribute to addressing brain drain by developing competent professionals locally.

He further stated that the hospital had established rules and regulations guiding such collaborations, which would be communicated to the EKSU team.

In her remarks, the leader of the delegation and Acting Head, Department of Medical Laboratory Science, EKSU, Dr. Mrs. F.A. Adewunmi, appreciated the management of FETHI for receiving the delegation. She expressed optimism about the proposed collaboration, noting that a partnership between a federal and state institution was not primarily about funding or finances, but about creating opportunities for both institutions to share expertise, resources and experiences for mutual development. Mr. Taiwo Jasau, who gave the vote of thanks, appreciated EKSU for choosing FETHI as a training centre for its Basic Medical Sciences students.
