FETHI Strengthens Collaboration with Security Agencies to Enhance Hospital Safety The Federal Teaching Hospital, Ido-Ekiti, on Wednesday, 26th August, held an engagement meeting with representatives of security agencies to strengthen collaboration and enhance security within and around the hospital.

The meeting, which was opened by the Chief Medical Director, Prof. Kolawole Olubunmi Ogundipe, brought together representatives of the Nigeria Police Force, Nigerian Army, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Department of State Services (DSS), and Presidency, as part of efforts to sustain effective security coordination and ensure a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors.

In his remarks, Prof. Ogundipe appreciated the security agencies for their continued support and collaboration with the hospital, noting that the peaceful environment enjoyed by the institution was partly attributable to their prompt response and cooperation whenever their intervention was required. He emphasised the importance of maintaining effective communication and strengthening existing partnerships, particularly in addressing security concerns before they escalate into situations that could affect the hospital and its wider community.

The CMD also called for closer coordination among the hospital management, security personnel and other relevant stakeholders, stressing the need for timely sharing of information and prompt response to security-related concerns. He noted that a strong working relationship among the various security agencies would further enhance their collective ability to maintain law and order within the hospital environment. Speaking in turn, representatives of the security agencies commended the hospital management for convening the engagement and acknowledged the importance of maintaining a strong partnership with the institution. They highlighted the need for effective communication, prompt reporting of security concerns and continued cooperation between the hospital and security agencies. They also identified areas requiring further attention, including improved coordination, patrol support, rapid response and other measures aimed at strengthening security within the hospital and its annexes. The representatives further appreciated the management’s efforts towards improving the working conditions and welfare of security personnel, noting that such support contributes to effective service delivery. They reaffirmed their commitment to working closely with the hospital and responding promptly whenever their intervention is required.

In response to a request for support to facilitate prompt response to security-related incidents at the hospital, the Chief Medical Director approved the provision of fuel to the security agencies on a monthly basis to support their operations and enable timely response when called upon. The representatives of the security agencies also commended the hospital’s Chief Security Officer, Mr. Sola Ogundare, for fostering effective communication and maintaining a smooth working relationship between the hospital and the security agencies. The Chief Medical Director, in acknowledging the commendations, also appreciated Mr. Ogundare for his efforts and directed that a formal commendation be given in recognition of his contribution to the hospital’s security operations.

In his response, Prof. Ogundipe appreciated the security agencies for their constructive contributions and reaffirmed the hospital’s commitment to sustaining the partnership. He noted that management would consider the issues raised and work with the relevant stakeholders to address them, while encouraging continued communication and cooperation towards ensuring a safe and secure environment across the hospital and its facilities. Also present were: The Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee, Dr. Olabisi Adeyemo; Deputy Director of Protocol, Mr. Isaac Anifowose and the Chief Security Officer, Mr. Sola Ogundare.
