Consultants across field of Medicine took participants on various topics ranging from Epidemiology Management and Prevention of Breast Cancer to Public Health Perspective, Access to Breast Imaging in Nigeria and Pathology Perspective.
Dr Fatudimu, Dr Kamal Alabi, Dr Oyekale, O.I and Dr Erinomo from their wealth of professional experiences and expertise did justice to their respective topics.
It was discussed that one defining feature of cancer is the rapid creation of abnormal cells that grow beyond their usual boundaries and which can invade adjourning parts of the body and spread to other organs.
The breast cancer awareness is aim to increase awareness and reduce the stigma linked to the symptoms and treatment of breast cancer, and to celebrate survivors and remember those who have died as a result of breast cancer.
Early detection was said to be one of the most important strategies for treating breast cancer and regular screenings are the most reliable way to detect it early.
Women were encouraged to do breast self examination (7 days after a period), clinical breast examination yearly for high risk women and even mammographic screening yearly for women over 40/50 years old.
To mark this year breast cancer awareness day, it was learnt that the management of the hospital has approved reduction in price of mammography and breast ultrasound for the pink month from Five Thousand Naira (N5,000) to Three Thousand Naira (N3,000) between 20th October and 30th November, 2021.
The Chairman of the hospital Education Committee, Dr Awoyinka lauded the contributions of all the participants and the rapt attention given by the audience and urged the women to utilise the opportunities provided by the awareness.
