MDCAN VISITS FMC, IDO – EKITI.

The Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria visited the Centre on the 19th day of June, 2014 for the purpose of considering the suitability of the Centre’s annual internship training programme re-accreditation and to increase the numbers of Interns attached to the Centre.

The visiting NUC team comprises of Prof N.K Dakum. and MDCAN Registrar, Dr A A Ibrahim , Prof. Uche Onwudiegwe, Prof. Egri-Okwaji, Prof. A.B.O Omotoso, Dr. N.V Nwakanma, Prof. J.O Ohaju-Obodo.

Dr L.M Ayodele, the Medical Director welcomed the MDCAN team to FMC Ido-Ekiti. He said training medical and allied medical specialists at undergraduate and postgraduate levels is one of the corporate objective objectives of the Centre as spelt out in its mission statement. The Chief Executive informed the visiting team about the accreditation status of the eight active departments running residency training in the Centre whose students performed better than residents from sister tertiary health centre’s and first generation teaching hospitals in the last National and West African Post-Graduate Examination. He further noted that very few Federal Medical Centre in the country can boast of the number of Consultants, Registrars and Specialists that are in the service of the Centre. He concluded his welcome address by pleading with the visiting team to consider increasing the number of interns that will be trained in the Centre because of the verifiable reasons he earlier underscored.

The visiting MDCAN members were afterward conducted round clinical departments and clinics by the Medical Director and his management team. Dr A A Ibrahim, the Registrar of MDCAN commended the Ayodele led management for her untiring effort at making the Centre a foremost tertiary health Centre. He said the mandate of his team is advisory and fact-finding. He ended his address with a pledge to draw management’s attention to gaps observed by the team.
