The Procurement Unit of the Federal Teaching Hospital, Ido-Ekiti (FETHI), under the leadership of Engr Folorunso Owoola, had acquainted both the internal and external stakeholders of the hospital with the processes, policies, procedures and practices involved in procurement.
The 2-day training and sensitization programme which started on Tuesday 29th and ended on Wednesday 30th March, 2022, had in attendance the members of staff of the hospital and suppliers and contractors.
Declaring the training session opened, the Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Prof. Adekunle Ajayi expressed gratitude to the leadership of the unit and his team for coming up with the programme which he said would avail both staff and contractors the nitty gritty of procurement processes and procedures.
He said, “Even though there was no organised procurement unit/dept before 2018 that I assumed office, the unit can today boast of having five (5) certified procurement officers already trained by Bureau of Public Procurement. This is a feat. The team had thought outside the box to raise fund to organise this programme without any financial support from the management of the hospital.”
He opined that it becomes expedient to bring in the members of staff to the transparency nature of the procurement processes that the hospital had started preaching; and also involve the hospital’s suppliers and contractors to improve their knowledge and capacity to the benefit of both parties.
Engr Owoola, who lauded the management of the hospital for providing the unit with enabling environment to impact knowledge, charged the participants to be take cognizance of all the goals and objectives of the training.
Presentations were made on Introduction to PPA 2007: Scope of application of the ACT by Mrs Ogunlade Oluwakemisola, Offences and penalties in procurement by Mr Akinjide Otegbola Esq, Understanding public procurement process by QS Olatimilehin Seyi, Understanding public procurement methods for goods, works and services by Engr Owoola, N.F.
