FETHI REVIEWS DEATH, BIRTH RATE FOR 2019

The organising committee of Clinico-Pathologic Grand Round in Federal Teaching Hospital, Ido-Ekiti, FETHI, had its first edition programme for the year 2020 on Morbidity/Mortality Review for year 2019 on Thursday at the hospital’s mini conference hall.

Dr. Onyema, the Chairman of the Committee, who welcomed all attendees to the programme, introduced the departments of Medicine and Obstetrics & Gynaecology as presenters.

The resource persons, Dr. M.O Adebisi, O&G and Dr. Atolani. from the Department of Medicine, took listeners through different sessions and illustrations, using graphs, charts and statistical information on general patients’ outcome in their respective departments for the year 2019.

After entertaining several comments, questions and answers which were appropriately addressed by some consultants, the Chairman Medical Advisory Committee (CMAC), Dr Idowu Adebara, stated that the hospital is moving on the right path and progressing yearly. He further encouraged that more should still be done for the patients.

The CMAC also stated that the hospital has a laid down policy on Autopsy which will be circulated and put at appropriate notice points and conspicuous places.

The Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Professor Adekunle Ajayi, in his remarks noted that what matters to all patients is good health and as healthcare providers, “we must do our best to let them have it before leaving our facility.”

The CMD later appreciated all the participants including the Chairman of the occasion and members of his team for a well packaged programme. He advised that templates of such presentations should be given to other departments to have the knowledge of what is expected of them in their collation of data or results.

Be that as it may, Prof. Ajayi, pleaded with doctors not to be extremely emotional about issues but remain calm so as to think professionally and proffer better solution to any problem or case.

He said some experts on Communication Skills will be invited to the hospital soon to lecture some doctors on how to communicate effectively in their line of duty.
