FETHI MARKS 2018 WORLD ORAL HEALTH DAY

The Federal Teaching Hospital Ido- Ekiti in its usual practice commemorate with the rest of the world to celebrate the year 2018 World Oral Health Day.

HOD Dental Department, Dr. Akinbade in his opening remark said this year theme “SAY AHH: THINK MOUTH THINK HEALTH”, was to show how bad teeth and breath may prevent some people from speaking in public.

The Guest Speaker Dr. Olagundoye, a Periodontologist from University of Lagos described Periodontitis as the inflammatory condition that attacks the gum and bone and around the teeth. He said the disease of the teeth is majorly caused by Bacteria which may lead to inflammation of the gum, break down the immune cells and destroy the fluid structure leading to other systemic diseases.

Therefore, he advised the audience to brush their teeth twice a day in the morning and before going to bed, change their toothbrush every 3 month, go for Dental check up every 6 month i.e twice a year and report any abnormal change in the mouth at the Dental Clinic.

Among other activities to mark the occasion was a debate competition and award of certificate of attendance to Participant.
